How to Get the Most Out of Your QR Code

Posted by Trumpia on Jan 27, 2012

QR Code Marketing is continuing to grow in popularity. Some might say that the key to creating a successful campaign with a QR code might include a little out-of-the-box thinking. But getting down to basics, the trick to making sure you get customers to act upon that important call to action – which is scanning your QR Code -- is to let people know about your campaign and educate them about just what they need to do with that black and white two-dimensional mobile barcode.

Here are some QR Code marketing fundamentals, based on our own experience and suggestions from the Mobile Marketing Association (MMA).

1. Provide Clear Instructions.

The MMA suggests that to get the most interaction with your QR Code, you’ll want to provide explicit instructions on what to do to interact with it. For example, along with your QR Code, you can include some mobile phone graphics. You can also print instructions on your signage that lets people know where to download popular QR Code reader apps. You can also instruct them to text QRAPP to 99000 to download Trumpia’s QR Code reader, in case they don’t already have one on their smart phone.

2. Promote Your Code.

Advertise your QR Code in all your digital and traditional marketing materials – ranging from your website to your email campaign to print ads, billboards and flyers. Make it prominent enough that people can easily see and scan it.

3. Tell Customers What You Want from Them.

Include a clear, compelling call-to-action, making the payoff for scanning obvious for the consumer. For example, using a phrase like “scan our QR Code to be automatically taken to our website to learn more” will let them know exactly what will happen when they scan your QR Code.

4. Don’t Assume Everyone Has a SmartPhone.

The MMA suggests that if you are not sure that most of your target audience has smart phones, you should also include an option to use SMS text, including your mobile keyword and short code.

QR Codes can turn an interactive customer experience into greater sales profits for your business. All it takes is a little effort towards marketing your QR Code and keeping the lines of communication open with your customer.
