Jamba Juice Increased In-Store Traffic

Today I’m going to show you how Brett Thomas, owner of Jamba Juice of Bakersfield, increased his in-store traffic by 10% in just two months! This is especially impressive considering Thomas’s lean budget, which meant he wouldn’t be able to hire a marketing expert.

Brett Thomas owns and operates four local franchises of the popular better-for-you beverage company. Like most small to medium-sized business owners, he had trouble targeting local customers and generating traffic. And with a limited marketing budget and jam-packed schedule, Thomas realized he needed an affordable option that could still yield results. With Trumpia, Thomas was able to launch a winning mobile and social media campaign.

Step 1) Set up a Keyword

When Thomas signed up with Trumpia, he was immediately assigned the shared short code 99000 for his use. So the first thing he did was create the mobile keyword “Jamba”, which visitors could text his short code in order to subscribe to his texting program.

 

Step 2) Determine the Terms of the Program

Thomas decided his program would provide subscribers with exclusive offers once or twice a week like “Buy One Get One Free” and 20% off to ensure subscribers felt privileged and excited to receive the next message. Thomas wanted to make sure he offered substantial discounts so that customers stayed in the SMS program, and kept coming back to the store.

 

Step 3) Advertise and Incentivise the Program

To advertise his program, Thomas placed large signs near the point-of-purchase at each participating store. Each sign had a large smoothie graphic and very clear messaging that read “Text the word Jamba to 99000 and get a buy one get one free (16oz) smoothie deal!” This deal was set up to incentivise signups by offering an immediate auto-response text that would automatically be sent to anyone the instant they subscribed to the program. Better yet, they could use the discount on the same day.

Thomas also promoted the mobile program across the Marketplace Facebook Fan Page and Twitter networks associated with his Jamba Juice locations to increase awareness and tap into their customers’ networks when followers shared the content of the promotion.

Using both Trumpia’s SMS text and social media marketing features, Thomas has grown his stores’ opt-in mobile database to around 1,000 customers, and increased traffic by 10% in just two months. That’s the power of mobile marketing. It’s immediate, attention-grabbing, and enables Thomas to conduct business through the one thing that never leaves his customers’ sides: their phones. Consider that 95% of text messages are opened and read within 3 minutes of delivery.

Text coupons in particular gave Thomas an advantage, as paper coupons can get lost, and promotional emails are often relegated to the spam folder. That’s all there was to it.
