Mobile Marketing and How You Can Use It to Succeed on Small Business Saturday

Posted by Trumpia on Nov 07, 2011

November is always an exciting time of year. It marks the start of the long awaited holiday season and, of course, drastic price cuts on the products we’ve been eyeing for way too long. As we all know, the biggest sales events can be found on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  These two days serve as a major cost savings opportunity for customers and revenue generating experience for businesses.

It’s no doubt that large corporations like Best Buy or Walmart will be overrun by floods of customers. But there’s still hope for small businesses—Small Business Saturday.

Squeezed in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday lands on November 26 this year.

American Express created Small business Saturday, with the help of numerous partners, to promote small businesses and to urge consumers to shop at local stores. Last year, American Express reported that the first Annual Small Business Saturday provided small businesses with a 28 percent increase in sales on American Express cards – up from 2009 on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

If yours is a small business, don’t miss out on the opportunity to make November 26 your biggest sales day of the year. Below are a few helpful tips from American Express, with additional recommendations from Trumpia, on how you can use mobile marketing to make the most of Small Business Saturday.

Promote

To help small businesses promote their products and services, American Express provides free in-store signage and e-marketing materials, which communicates the company’s offer of a $25 statement credit to card members who shop at their locations on November 26. Another way to utilize in-store signage is to post your mobile keyword and Short Code on signs. That way, customers can text that mobile keyword to your short code and opt-in to your network. Once they are opted-in, you can send out text-appointment-reminders to remind them to shop at your store on November 26. And why not offer a mobile coupon with a special discount to reel them in?

Create

American Express recommends that small businesses like yours should create special offers or experiences, such as free gift wrapping or free product giveaways that motive customers to visit their businesses on the big day. Once you create your special promotion, make sure to get the word out by sending out mobile eCards to highlight those offers and invite customers to join in on the fun.

Engage

With the internet and social media, communicating with your customers is fast and easy. So there is no excuse for not engaging and building a relationship with your customers. You can create personal videos that showcase your small business through YouTube or tools like My Business Story from Google and American express. My Business Story allows you to create professional quality videos to share with your customers. Another way to communicate with customers and build brand awareness is through Facebook and Twitter. With All-In-One Marketing solutions like Trumpia, you can update your Facebook status and Twitter feed, as well as use your fan page to capture opt-ins to your mobile text distribution lists.

With the tools provided by American Express and Trumpia, you can make Small Business Saturday the most profitable day of the year.
