Mobile Text Messaging and Smart Phones Quickly Dethroning TV as King of All Media

Posted by Trumpia on Dec 26, 2011

While marketing research firms still say that TV is king of all media, it seems like technology movers and shakers are succeeding in reversing that trend.  With the advent of the iPhone, iPad and Google Android and technologies like mobile text messaging, more and more consumers are spending less and less time staring at their computer monitors, much less their TV screens.

According to a recent article in The New York Times, Rules for The New Ways of Watching, by David Carr, a lot of other screens will be taking the lead in reeling in consumers. He explains that the iPad makes it easier to take advantage of a much more personal viewing experience, explaining that our living room screens will have to perform the same way to stay relevant. He goes on to say that the smartphone will point the way. Cell phones, mobile devices and now tablet computers will always be on and in Carr’s words, “ready for action.”

So, when it comes to reaching consumers, it only makes sense that we as marketers should increasingly think about adapting our marketing efforts towards the newest media channels. Using sites like Facebook to build a following and collect mobile text marketing contacts is not only a much more effective way to reach consumers than traditional media – it’s much more affordable than spending thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars on a television commercial.  In fact, companies that are vying for consumers’ attention across a variety of media channels are increasingly disappointed with the results from their TV advertising efforts. Now with sites like YouTube, the TV screen is also moving more and more towards becoming its own version of a personal media device.

As a result, businesses everywhere are singing the praises of SMS and multi-channel marketing. Using solutions like Trumpia, which let you reach 100 percent of your audience using SMS, email, IM, voice broadcast and social media messaging, you can make a more direct connection with your target audience.

Facebook continues to grow its user-base and the younger generation has ushered in a new era, whereby more and more people are using mobile text to communicate with customers, employees and partners. So while we all might reminisce at the thought of the classic TV commercials that remain ever imprinted in our memories, the simple truth is that the future of marketing is mobile text and multi-channel marketing. It’s no wonder that more and more forward thinking companies are jumping on the multi-channel marketing bandwagon to quickly transform their sales.
