We write a lot about the power of one-to-one texts, or their professional counterpart, one-to-many texts. Either method is a smart and efficient way to allow people/companies to contact other smartphone owners with a particular message.

Sending SMS messages (words only) or MMS (other multimedia content with the text, like videos or photos) allow senders to bypass voice mail systems, admin assistants, or email filters, and directly reach someone’s phones – which they may already be looking at.

Being able to send text is appealing because not only do people read them within minutes of their arrival, as opposed to email or voice mail which are checked less frequently. Plus, recipients also tend to respond just as quickly, which can be great for businesses hoping to boost click-throughs or site visitors, or urge people to buy something. Using a bulk texting service can also easily blast your message out to hundreds of thousands of audience members.

But there’s also an alternate method of texting: using your desktop or laptop. This can be handy when your phone is unavailable, such as being out of power, data or cellular range, but your email provider may be working just fine. Plus, your good ol’ PC has the advantage of a larger keyboard and monitor, and easier access to any visuals stored on your hard drive.

To the recipient, the text will still originate from you. They may not know that you went through some extra steps to get there.

Here are some of the methods you can use to to send text like a pro.

Those who advocate this method suggest that you need to make sure your message is 160 characters or less, which fits the requirement to send text.

  • There’s an app. Both Android and iOS devices include options to send out texts without using your phone’s official texting service.  HowtoGeek said apps like MightyText and AirDroid can be installed on your phone, and allow you to sign in through your computer and operate phone functions. Lifehacker recommends MightyText for being able to easily schedule SMS and MMS texts.

  • Use Apple. Apple devices are known for their interchangeability, which makes it easy to compose messages on a desktop or an iPhone and access them on another machine using the shared AppleID. One service in newer versions Apple iOS is called Text Forwarding, in which a message can start on an iPhone and then be transferred and sent to a desktop.

  • Go Google. Google Voice can be accessed via a PC/Windows machine, and can be asked a number of tasks including sending out texts. It also can be used world-wide.

  • Other text-like features. Facebook Messenger and Skype provide private person-to-person text communication, but may not work so well in a business environment.

  • Texting services. Some of the services designed to automate your company’s SMS promotional efforts and facilitate bulk delivery of texts can also provide options such as composing and sending SMS as emails.

People putting together this method can access their database of audience members or at least people who have created a profile/registered their accounts/opted-in for contact.

From this list of supporters, you can import the phone numbers of everyone you want to text, or every subject group you want to select and contact with this message. And, instead of trying to find the appropriate gateway for the end of every email/text, some services like Trumpia can provide their own.

In addition to providing text services to people who may not have easy access to their smartphones, a texting provider can also make sure every audience member with an active account receive the message, even if the recipient doesn’t have access to email.

With Trumpia, for instance, you’ll receive email summaries of any responses to your campaign, whether they’re from people who have texted a message back or emailed back their response. If you hit “reply” to any, a message will be sent as a text, provided recipients can open.

Today’s professional texting campaigns are designed to offer quick, effective promotional messages to people who prefer to send text to other forms of interaction. But the better campaigns also include email options for senders and recipients who may not have easy access to smartphones.
