10 Ways to Maximize SMS Campaign Success

We’ve gathered up the top 10 pointers on how to launch a successful mobile-text campaign. Trumpia has seen quite a few SMS campaigns in our day, and we want you to share in that success too!

  1. Save text space! Abbreviate words like ‘through’ to ‘thru’, ‘because’ to ‘bc’ and don’t forget to utilize the ‘&’ symbol.
  2. Time SMS messages according to your campaign. For sales promotions, deliver promos during business hours to drive in business. Send happy-hour incentives later on in the day to attract patrons.
  3. Choose a short keyword that applies to your business. That way your audience can easily remember your keyword.
  4. Give your keyword maximum exposure. Advertise your word on store signage, business cards, flyers, and even print media.
  5. Start your message with your organization’s name. Readers will immediately know who the message is from.
  6. Add a compelling call-to-action. Get your audience moving by specifying when promotions expire.
  7. Be mindful of how many texts you deliver per campaign. If your customers receive too many message from you, your campaign will lose impact and viewers are more likely to opt-out.
  8. Make sure your recipients have opted-in to your list themselves. Campaigns with bought or borrowed pre-made contacts lists are the least successful and have the highest opt-out rates.
  9. Make sure your keyword advertisement abides by CTIA rules [PDF].  Some campaigns forget to take this into consideration and forget to check their signage, landing them in end up in hot water.
  10. Abide by Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) guidelines.
