What to do on Small Business Saturday

Posted by Trumpia on Oct 29, 2012

Earlier this month, we talked about how you could get ready ahead of Small Business Saturday, the special holiday next month promoting small businesses. That involved you taking a proactive approach by focusing on tangible goals or results you want to get out of the business holiday and crafting your marketing campaign around these goals. Now, we’re going to go over what you should do on the big day.

Like the day of any big event - a wedding, graduation, or birth of your child - you’re probably going to have your hands full with what’s happening right then. To help you deal with any contingencies, you should think of and plan ahead for all the little things that could go wrong.

  • Schedule last-minute reminders. A beautiful email campaign weeks or days in advance of SBS is great and all, but people can forget. Set up last-minute SMS reminders to be sent to your customers the day before or in the morning of to ensure maximum customer traffic. Add special one-day SBS promos to really hook them in.
  • Live social-media updates. Keep your audiences engaged throughout the day by periodically updating your social-media feeds with news about your in-store events, promotions, or even customers themselves. Add photos and videos to stimulate stronger engagement - but don’t overdo it.
  • Get your store ready. Make sure you've stockpiled adequate amounts of popular products and decorated your store with SBS signage and other promotional material.
