Small businesses all across the nation will be participating in the annual Small Business Saturday event taking place Nov. 24, 2012.

But…what is Small Business Saturday?

It’s a relatively new American “shopping” holiday put on by American Express. Following in the tradition of the infamous Black Friday shopping day and recent online phenomena Cyber Monday, Small Business Saturday is aimed at stimulating the growth of America’s small and local businesses, which continue to play a big role in the economy.

People are encouraged to support small businesses by spending money at small businesses in their local area. And, those who use their American Express card receive some perks as well!

Not only is this an ingenious way to give our economy a much needed push, it’s also a productive way to celebrate the strength and success of those business owners who have been able to brave the current market and continue to live the American dream.
