Knowing When to Use SMS vs. MMS is Key for all Marketing Teams

Did you know that there are so many differences between SMS and MMS, especially when you are using Trumpia? Learn about their unique differences through this blog!

Knowing when to use SMS vs. MMS is one of the most valuable skills you can have when planning out your marketing strategies, especially if you are using Trumpia. However, many people do not even know the difference between SMS and MMS in order to gauge which one to use. Let’s break that down first.

SMS Texting

SMS is very simple, it’s just a text message. People tend to conflate the word “text” to mean anything when in reality, a true text message does not involve any pictures or videos - just text. However, what you absolutely need to know is that when you are sending just a text message through Trumpia, you have a 160 character limit. Anything more is going to require additional credits

SMS is such an ideal communication medium. While many people do not know, texting has an impressive open rate of 97%, and it is one of the most preferred forms of communication by many people. In fact, every single year, there are roughly around 6 billion messages being sent around the country every single day. Because of its ease and sheer ability to integrate with other sophisticated platforms, texting is the ideal way to communicate.

MMS Texting

MMS texting on the other hand is also a form of SMS texting, with so many more capabilities. MMS are essentially text messages that incorporate multimedia which includes pictures, videos, and voice. MMS is also really useful because it expands your character limit when you are using Trumpia, allowing you to send up to 980 characters.

MMS is a great way to show off new products, integrate in with a scheduling application, or even explain certain processes through diagrams and tutorials. Depending on your industry, MMS allows you and your company to get creative in the ways you are engaging your customers. We highly recommend using MMS in order to make your product or services more appealing.

When to Use Either

SMS messages are going to be your go to. Not only are they cheaper to send and cost nothing to your subscribers, they also guarantee that your contacts are actually reading your messages. While some may see 160 characters as limiting, it also keeps you accountable in keeping your messages short and tight, guaranteeing that your message isn’t overwhelming.

Like anything in life, it is important to use and do things in moderation. While MMS may be more eye-catching and captivating, it can also cause people to ignore some content, especially if it requires more work. Knowing which messages can be kept simple and which ones need more of a push can be an enormous difference maker when trying to strengthen your campaigns.

Also remember that it is going to cost more, so you need to factor in all of your costs. We also recommend getting a separate designer who can help create and manage content for you.
